Suspended stretcher stairs are a means of emergency recovery and refer to their requirement to fit a stretcher horizontally.  To allow stretcher recovery, stretcher stairs must have 1.2m clear width.   This suspended stretcher stair was 1.4m wide to allow for people and bulky equipment.  It was installed on a timber wharf in Sydney and was required during essential maintenance of the wharf.
